July 2017 was NZ Dirt Track’s 31st birthday, and the celebrations kicked off as usual with a comprehensive review of the Speedway NZ annual conference and awards night. Dirt Track also launched an award of its own, with the first ever People’s Choice Award determined by public vote. Ethan Rees picked up the win, narrowly over Modified star Luke Brown and Baypark’s Chris Cowling.
Michael Pickens had success in the USA in a Midget he shipped over especially, with Matthew Percival on the tour to report back for the mag. And in racing news back home, Westport’s Queens Birthday meeting rounded out the 2016/17 season.
